Lovely walk around the walls of this historic city. Lovely way to see it from a different perspective as you roam along the walls protecting the city. The walk is about 5km with lots of steps down and up at the various gates into the city, so not suitable for those with mobility issues. Can get rather busy on weekends too.

We recently visited the York Walls and took a twilight walk that left us very happy. The historic walls, beautifully illuminated as the sun set, offered a unique perspective of the city. The gentle glow created a magical atmosphere, highlighting the medieval architecture and surrounding landscapes.

Walking along the ramparts, We enjoyed stunning views of York Minster and the charming rooftops below. The path was peaceful, and the soft sounds of the city winding down added to the experience. It felt like stepping back in time, and I found myself captivated by the blend of history and natural beauty.

Overall, the York Walls at twilight is a must-do for anyone seeking a memorable and picturesque evening in this beautiful city!

We had a fantastic time in The City of York. Was easy to take Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus and only cost £14 for the day ? Only downfall was having to rebook events etc. We didn't get to visit some of attractions because of this.

The bus driver was very informative and quite a comic. The 1hr tour on the bus was great as we got to see and gear all about the History and take lots of photos and videos?
Best place we went to was "The Shambles" Great market there and lots of venues to eat at. It was very busy on a hot Sunday afternoon. It was also quite cheap to eat at restaurants.

Would definitely recommend a visit here on a bus tour

I love, love, love this city, and its walls are just a spectacular way to view it and get absorbed into the history.

If you want to walk the entire length take some snacks! It has some of the most incredible views of the Minster, takes you through all the towers, and offers great info boards along the way. There's also a "brass" rubbing game along the way to build a map of ancient York if you're so inclined (or have kids!).

Walking the walls can also give you a break from the bustle of the place, and has some benches along the way, or at least some places to sit.

It's a really well done experience for a very special city.

Best introduction to York - free and keeps you healthy. Unfortunately the wall does not go all the way around the city and you have to pick it up across roads. You also need to be careful as there are no railings on the inner sections although the drops are only shallow grass verges Easily navigated with plenty of steps.
