Beautiful cathedral with a lot of displays in basement on the architecture and how they fixed it from sinking. My husband and older son went to the top for the view which was really cool also. I am very interested in architecture and an engineer by trade so it was super interesting for me. The amount of stained glass in this place wow.

Magnificent building that resisted the centuries. An amazing structure with tall tower and many places inside to visit. You can visit the foundations of the building, which were restored after the municipality detecting the building was sinking.
Wonderful place for visiting with family.

Wonderful, great mixture of history and architecture. Small museum in the crypt which gives you a history of York from the Roman to present day.

There are guided tours for those who want more information, otherwise a leisurely walk through takes around minutes to see everything in detail

York Minster is truly awe-inspiring! The architecture is incredible, with intricate details that make you appreciate the craftsmanship from centuries ago. The history of the Minster is fascinating, whether you’re religious or not—it’s captivating for anyone with an interest in the past.

One highlight is the Tower Challenge, where you climb 275 steps to reach the top. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but the views from York’s highest point are absolutely worth it. You get a breathtaking, panoramic view of the city that you won’t forget. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in York!

The Minster is a beautiful building in historic surroundings. I'm not a religious person, but I thoroughly recommend coming in for a visit. The architecture is stunning. Such skill and craftsmanship. Visiting at Christmas adds an extra dimension with all the trees from local schools and businesses.

A very beautiful building outside, great architecture, I could not visit inside as access into the building after half past four was not allowed, so I will have to return on another day to see and comment. There is quite a bit of roman history attached to the area also. Very clean and tidy area, lovely to experience all around, with the lovely shops and restaurants.

Such a beautiful Minster. I’ve lived in York for many years but have never been inside this beautiful building before last night when I visited the Pheonix light show, depicting the fire in 1984 which caused so much damage. The light show was amazing and projected images of the fire , the restoration and the fund raising to fund the £1M of repairs to bring the Minster back to its former magnificence. It’s well worth a visit either to see the light show or just the awesomeness of this historic landmark.

York Minster: a jaw-dropping Gothic cathedral that’s equal parts awe-inspiring and a leg day you didn’t sign up for.

From the outside, it looks like something straight out of Hogwarts, and stepping inside is like walking into a medieval Instagram filter. The stained glass windows? Unreal. The sheer height of the ceilings? Terrifying. Honestly, it’s hard to feel cool when even the pillars are judging your posture.

But then you spot the stairs to the tower. “It’ll be fine,” you think. “Just a few steps.” A few steps?! It’s 275 spiral ones, and by step 100, you’re seriously questioning all your life choices and clutching the railing like it’s a lifeline. I’m pretty sure I saw my soul leave my body somewhere around step 200.

The view at the top, though? Worth every single moment of wheezing. York stretches out like a medieval Monopoly board, and suddenly you understand why people build cathedrals instead of bungalows.

On the way back down, I popped into the gift shop, because what better way to commemorate your spiritual awakening than with a York Minster pencil?

Overall: majestic architecture, soul-cleansing views, and free cardio. Highly recommend. Just maybe don’t eat a big lunch beforehand.
