It is said that in 1256 the family of Richard de Brito, one of the knights implicated in the murder of Thomas Becket at Canterbury, decided to build a chapel at Dorstone. That medieval chapel lasted until 1827 when it was demolished and a new church built. Sadly, it was badly built
And a replacement church had to be built in 1889 which is the current St Faith's church, a Victorian reimagining of the Early English style of building. Luckily, many of the earlier medieval structures survived, and were incorporated in the current church building. It is accessible via a small parking area either on the main road and cut through a public footpath, or via the village itself. It has a portaloo on site which I was thankful to see. A beautiful church and part of a lovely village. Well worth stopping off for.
