My wife and I ate here last summer and were blown away with the service and food. I thought I had already left a review but can’t find it now and having read some of the (very few) bad reviews, I thought I should do so now. I ALWAYS book a table if I know the pub or restaurant is well renowned - it’s common sense. Sometimes if we’re out on a drive we may pop in to a country pub on the off chance but if there’s no room, there’s no room. It’s not the pubs fault I didn’t book. Likewise I check the menu first and, in the case of the Cat, reviews.
We weren’t disappointed. The welcome from the waitress was warm and friendly and we felt comfortable from the moment we sat at our table. I love Harvey’s so that was a good start, and the food was exceptional! As close to fine dining as you’ll find outside of London and at a fraction of the price. The Cat is a little out of our way but we’ll still be back very soon, perhaps for the legendary Sunday lunch.
But we’ll book first!
Keep up the great work - it’s a lovely place.

Visited this lovely cosy pub on a mid week evening in January. Don't drive there via Cob Lane! Interesting journey in the dark!? But once we were there the service and food was excellent. Mel was brilliant and so welcoming, as was the landlord Andrew - what a super chap. We didn't stay overnight so can't comment on the rooms, but the ambiance of the pub was lovely and food fantastic. Will definitely return. Thank you to all at The Cat.👍👍👍

Easily the best pub for miles around with attentive and friendly staff, great food and a well thought out wine list. I ate here In front of the fire with my son with a view of the heavily frosted village church opposite - quintessentially English. They also have a small number of rooms if you want to suspend real life for a while!!! Very highly recommended.

every time i come here the food blows me away! it truly is phenomenal every time
came here yesterday for a belated birthday dinner and i cannot fault the evening… the service is always fab here and the food was top notch.
we ordered the cod special and the sea bream - the fish was some of the best we’ve ever had! our waitress (apologies but i didn’t catch her name!) was attentive throughout without being overbearing as some can be in other restaurants.
we drive up all the way from brighton just to come to the cat and we are never disappointed - the value for money here is great too, perfect for a special occasion! i rarely write reviews but i had to after the meal we had last night! would 1000000% recommend!

We enjoyed a fantastic stay at The Cat Inn. We found the room to be very comfortable and cosy, with high quality tea and coffee options in the room and products to use in the bathroom. The standard of cleanliness was also very high. The pub itself has a great selection of beers and a lovely atmosphere. The food in the restaurant went above and beyond our high expectations, every dish was incredibly delicious. The staff were all very welcoming and it was clear that they are all well rehearsed in top quality hospitality. This is the perfect place for a weekend getaway, would highly recommend.

A hidden gem just outside of East Grinstead. I’ve visited The Cat on half a dozen times now whilst I stay overnight when working in the area. I’ve been working my way through the menu and have yet to having anything I didn’t love. Food is just fantastic, highlights for me are the cod cheeks in miso broth, squid and chorizo salad, cod with a miso glaze, mango mousse dessert and cinnamon sponge. Only thing I can critique is the steak pie, which was also very good but which for me needed a little more seasoning. However I still thoroughly enjoyed it. To top it all off drinks and meal are very reasonable. Typically one drink and three courses is under £50. I wish we lived nearer!
