This small museum has just a few displays, some more interesting than others. I was interested in the Roman coins on display, which had been found in the area by people with metal detectors, and eventually purchased for the museum. Next to the museum was a small art gallery which, on the day I was there at least, had very little of interest. Not sure if the entrance fee was worth it.

Just great. Terrific exhibition on at the moment Shorelines/Skylines which if you enjoy artworks of the coast this is for you. So if you are in Lymington and enjoy visiting a great museum with friendly and engaging staff. This is the place for you. And they have a great cafe as well.

Had a short visit to this museum, would loved to have stayed longer but teen son had other ideas.....
Exhibits change regularly so check the website to see what's on.
Exhibits of mechanical works which were quite fascinating.
Really wanted to try the cafe but see first paragraph. 🙄
The entrance ticket lasts all day, and there's a separate exhibition of local history.
Staff at entrance desk were very helpful and informative.

Cafe review.
Nice people serve you and service comes to you which is good and a pleasant change. Food is really good with a wide choice including specials.
Teapots however are ridiculous. You have to lift the whole pot on to the cup (!) which releases the tea through the base of the tepot. If you catch the foot of the teapot on the handle of the cup (more likely than not) then the tea goes everywhere. Added to that, the base of the teapot sits around the rim of the cup which you then have to put to your mouth. Make sure the underside of the teapot is clean first!
Whoever designed the teapot must have time on their hands. Why redesign something which works perfectly and change it to something which does not?! In schools IT is taught as 'design for a purpose". There was no purpose in this design, except design for design sake. Why on earth did anyone think that the main demographic of their customers (middle aged/elderly) would want to use them or find them easy to use?
Tea choice is breakfast or builders'. Builders' tea in my definition is heavy and very strong. In reality the builders' tea they offer is Assam, a good medum tea with flavour but usually sold as a breakfast tea. The breakfast tea they offer is very weak and so best without milk. We avoided the builders' tea because of its name, not realising it was Assam as we didn't read the small print on the menu.
Don't go in on a cold day as the huge glass doors open and close as people walk by them letting out any warmth and bringing in freezing air. It's a shocking disregard for energy saving. Yet another ridiculous design so the poor people working there and their customers have to suffer. I noticed the staff at the shop counter had their coats on.
It's such a shame as we'd visited in the summer before but won't now go in winter as it was miserable to sit there which added to the teapot frustration!
It needs an extra set of doors to make a lobby, to save precious energy and make it a comfortable place to work in and to visit all year round.

We love this place - and are happy to drive for two hours to reach it! The exhibitions are imaginatively curated and beautifully presented - and the café is a little gem. Really lovely staff, too.

What a glorious museum . Friendly staff, clean and well maintained. Lots of interactive things for the children to do and with information clearly displayed and easily absorbed. Honestly a delight !!! I came with my children aged 24 and 21 and we loved it !!! Wish I had grandchildren to bring too as such fun for them. Cafe had good choice and all delicious - clean with friendly staff . 10/10 all round 😊

This is the most engaging and inspiring museum that I've taken my 6 year old in ages - London attractions included. There is so much interaction, it would motivate almost any child (or visitor!) to remain curious about the possibilities being presented long after the visit. Nice one!
