Booking was not simple, but eventually made directly with the hotel over the telephone for their ‘King Rufus Suite’ including Breakfast. Note; this reservation required guaranteeing with a valid card and payment was taken for the full amount 1 day prior to arrival (you can cancel before 2 pm, 48 hours prior to arrival without being charged). ||The Hotel itself was relatively easy to find in the town centre, however it is worth checking their website for directions due to the one-way system within Lyndhurst itself and noting there is a tight entrance to the hotel car park!||Check in was friendly and we were introduced to the various aspects available to guests, such as the bar, restaurant, etc but were not shown the room itself. Service throughout our stay, though friendly, was somewhat hit and miss so beware, especially if ordering food and drink and the bill at the end of your stay.||The room was large, clean, nicely furnished, whilst the adjoining bathroom was complete with bath, monsoon shower and toilet. Normal facilities are available (tea, coffee, etc), though milk was often in short supply. There is free Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel that operated, during our stay, at somewhat weak strength. ||The downstairs bar area had comfortably stylish and relaxed, where you could get a full menu meal or snack and there is a separate lounge area complete with cosy armchairs, settees and open fire (which was lit on the days we were there). There was an additional seating outside in a grass area courtyard, but the weather was not conducive for use during our stay. The bar had limited beers and cider available, a short wine list, good selection of spirits, especially gins, and some classic cocktails for the more adventurous (be aware of the specials 2for1 offer; you both have to have the same drink)! In addition, be careful when ordering; it may require ‘chasing up’ if it is to appear at all!||Breakfast was taken in a separate room, again on the ground floor. The options included rather limited pastries, fruit, fresh fruit juices and a variety of self-service somewhat unconvincing ‘English Breakfast’ and ‘Continental’ items along with a make your own toast machine. The was an option to request other items, but a requested item did not appear before we had finished breakfast entirely. Overall, breakfast was a disappointment given this hotel classes itself as a 4-star boutique establishment;||The hotel restaurant was used on one of the nights we stayed and, besides having to wait a seemingly long time before someone acknowledge we were ready to order, there is a somewhat limited menu, especially for vegans! Whilst our chosen items were nice and well presented, non-stood out as especially recommended as an option for future quests and readers, nor did one of the plated mains have the correct accompanying side as listed on the menu. Furthermore, I did not expect a phone call late at night, 3 days later, stating there had been a ‘mistake’ over the billing of this meal and stating additional funds had been taken from my guarantee card.||The Hotel room and other prices are within today’s 4-star high range of what we would have expected. All in all, whilst a pleasant stay, in a very nice part of the English countryside, I, for one, do not recommend this hotel to others, nor would I use it again.

We just had a fab stay here. Lyndhurst is a lovely little town and the hotel is right on the high street. Our room was warm, comfy, quiet and spacious. The various areas for eating and having a drink were really comfy and inviting. Staff were really welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was brilliant, a big range to choose from and all good quality. Would definitely stay again, it was perfect to get away for the night and did the trick of having us feeling well rested.

Fabulous hotel with friendly and welcoming staff. A very clean and comfortable hotel, our room was really large compared to other hotels in the area . The very small lift is quite strange, decided to use the stairs after squishing in there once! They have happy hour on cocktails 3-6 pm and were lovely. The evening meal was excellent, with a good choice. Our booking came with £35 a head towards dinner. Breakfast was also brilliant, plenty to choose from and they were very good at keeping everything re filled.|Very comfortable nights sleep and large bathroom with shower over bath.|Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and it never disappoints. Always spotless clean, lovely staff and great food. All rooms are very nice. ||It is very close to many places including Southampton and Bournemouth. It is in the centre of Lyndhurst so there are many lovely walks particularly in and around the forest. We will be going back again.

Great location, lovely room. Restaurant was lovely. The staff are exceptional, they are the real asset, 5 star service. Right in the middle of the town, great ambience to the hotel. Best hotel I’ve stayed at in the New Forest. Don’t waste your time looking elsewhere.

Went to hotel reception to ask whether they served lunch to non-residents. The answer was yes. He then took me into the restaurant opposite reception to show me the lunch menu. I said we would be back in an hour. He confirmed we would be welcome. An hour later we were seated in the completely empty restaurant, only then to be told that they were expecting a party of 25 so could only offer sandwiches and soup. There were a lot more than 25 seats in the restaurant so should we assume that as soon as more than 25 are in the restaurant any newcomers are refused lunch? Terrible

My wife and I stayed 2 nights for a New Year break before returning to the daily grind. We were met at reception by Andrew Moody who was extremely welcoming. Our room was a haven for 48 hours. The breakfast was well presented and very tasty. All the staff were friendly and attentive. Thank you to all the team, including the oft-overlooked housekeeping team who clearly take pride in their work. We hope to be back!
