A very enjoyable experience to make your own knife. The day was very professionally run, with two very experienced people on hand to advise and assist if you asked. Don't be afraid to come along and have a go, as there is as much help as you require, to come away with a fantastic looking knife that you can treasure for life. What ever your practical skills level, I am sure that you will come away with a knife that you will be very proud of and to show your friends.
I had a fantastic two days and enjoyed the whole experience and would recommend it to everyone.

I couldn't recommend this experience more. The viking knife making course was run extremely professionally and with clear instructions and excellent humour. James is an incredible host and is clearly a master of his craft.

just the most fun you can have with a hammer in one hand and hot metal in the other. I made an incredible knife last year and a set of BBQ tools in June this year. They teach you every skill you need in short simple steps, so no prior experience needed. the joy of forging your own tools is immense. Highly recommended

When my wife bought me a voucher (for my birthday) for a two-day knife making course at the Boneyard, I thought it was a slightly eccentric but nevertheless interesting idea. My only concern was that the “course“ might be more in the nature of a demonstration rather than a full hands-on exercise; I wanted to get my hands dirty, as it were. That concern was, as it turns out, entirely misplaced - you get your hands (and much else besides) properly dirty both literally and figuratively. Dan, the leader of the course, walks you through the entire process of forging a kitchen knife and you do it all - with one or two exceptions (for safety) - yourself one step at a time. It requires concentration and at times a surprising amount of effort, but the end result is pretty stunning. If it seems expensive when you sign up, you will not feel that way at the end - it is worth every penny and the knife will become an instant family heirloom. It is also an event which seems to attract interesting people, and that very much adds to the experience. Dan is a born teacher - he will show you how, carefully watch you do it, and leap in to save you from irreversibly stuffing it up should that prove necessary, all the while preserving a very dry sense of humour. I recommend this without reservation - it deserves its 5 stars.

Fantastic course I did the 2 day chefs knife course ! James and Daniel were so brilliant! they made sure we all had a great time, whilst also making sure we all left with a great knife to last a lifetime.
They both showed a massive expertise and passion for what they do without making it feel inaccessible.
I’ve spent the last couple of days since recommending it to friends and family and also planning my next attempts.
If you’re thinking about doing it just go for it ! It’s worth it.

Today I finished the two day course making a chefs knife. It was a fantastic experience. James is a top bloke and excellent instructor and guide, ably assisted by Dan. Each step of the knife-smithing process was clearly communicated, with James demonstrating each step and on hand to guide us through the process. We all finished the course with incredible knives that I for one, will cherish for many years to come.
I really couldn’t recommend James and The Boneyard more.
