Great Staircase Refurbishment

Having followed Mat Scrase Bespoke Carpentry of Facebook for some time, the quality of workmanship was almost a given and we were not disappointed with the end result.

From the first time I met Mat, I was assured that he was the right man for the job and clearly had the knowledge and experience to refurbish our staircase to improve this central feature of our home. Mat and Jim undertook the refurbishment on the agreed date within the timescales discussed and worked with such passion and attention to detail I trusted their judgement completely. They worked tidily and considerately in a busy family home making the project completely stress free!!

We are delighted with the end result and look forward to posting photos of the end result once painted and carpeted.

From the original communication with Bronya to the work Mat and James completed was all fantastic and great quality. The end result captured everything that Mat and myself spoke about and brought what I had in my head to life and I couldn’t be happier with the final product. Super professional and they kept everything tidy during building - which was appreciated after putting down new carpets. Would highly recommend the company and would definitely use again for future projects! 🙂

What a fantastic company!
We needed our staircase refurbing, and from quote to finished job, Bronya, Mat and James were highly professional, efficient and a pleasure to deal with.

Mat and James did an incredible job and their quality of work was absolutely excellent. Our hallway has been transformed!

Can’t give a zero stars unfortunately.

I engaged with this company a little while back and after a visit to quote for some “bespoke” joinery I gladly accepted the quote and had dates set for work. I reside within the area this company covers (clearly stated on their website and social media pages) which is why I can assume they attended to quote for the work.

I was due to have some other building work completed in my property prior to the commencement of the “bespoke” joinery work.

My wife paid a deposit for the work (not disclosed as to if this was non-refundable or not).

A little while after we accepted the quote we decided to drop one of the pieces of “bespoke” joinery, leaving just 2 other builds to complete.

The other building work I mentioned in the property was completed 2 weeks ago and upon completion decided we would drop another piece of “bespoke” joinery from the order as our preference was to not over crowd an area with furniture (not that that needs justifying).

This leaves 1 piece of work outstanding (2 thirds of the invoice value).

Upon informing the company of the decision to not have 1 of the 2 remaining items built we were straight met with “We will not carry out the remaining work”.

Apparently I now live too far away for this company to come and complete the work. To top it off I am not getting my deposit back.

I called to question the status of the refund of the deposit and spoke with a rude woman who couldn’t really justify the reason for not wanting to complete work except I am now mysteriously too far for them to travel. She spoke with confidence and even threatened her legal team “on standby”. I wonder why they are on standby?

I appreciate changes were made to the order of work but, when you are spending that much money you want to be sure you are making the right decision. Had I cancelled the entire order I would willingly accept the loss of the deposit. I made my position clear that I still wanted the remaining work completing.

To top it off it now appears I have been blocked on their social media platform.

Mat and his brother did a great job in our kitchen where we wanted some additional units added. Despite me changing my mind a couple of times on the location of the units they were able to complete them to just the way we wanted and they have finished off our kitchen beautifully.

Absolutely delighted with the new media wall in our living room. We had an idea of what we wanted but these guys were so helpful, assisting us in making final decisions and talking us through our options.
Once we’d (finally) decided, the end result is just top quality and I am absolutely in love with it!!!
Would not hesitate to use them again for any carpentry requirements and recommend them to everyone. Thanks so much guys, you are awesome 🙂
