My wife is a professional clarinet player who has enjoyed teaching and performing in symphony orchestras, wind bands, and chamber ensembles all her life.

When she was diagnosed with RA she had to face the possibility that she would never be able to play her clarinet again because her fingers had become so misshapen and painful she could not cover the holes of her fine professional instrument. Devastated, I began to search for vintage plateau (closed hole) clarinets which I knew existed in the past only to find them (extremely rare) either in such poor condition they could not be repaired or so expensive (and with parts that are impossible to source if needed.

I was overjoyed to find that Hanson was making quality modern plateau clarinets in Yorkshire GB at a very attractive price point. After a wonderful phone conversation with the shop I ordered an ebonite plateau model for her birthday. When it arrived and she played it for the first time tears of joy streamed down her face as she realized she had been given a chance to use her God given talent and passion once more.
