Located in the heart of London, it has played a central role in British history for over a thousand years. Architecturally, it’s a marvel, it’s timeless. Westminster Abbey is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take your time walking through and enjoy the splendour, the history where so many have walked before you, be they royalty of tourists, or other. Over 3,000 people are buried or commemorated here, including monarchs, scientists (Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Stephen Hawking), poets & authors (Geoffrey Chaucer, Alfred Tennyson, Lewis Carroll), and other national figures, throughout the ages. It has history, reverence, and character not found in any other site in the UK. A bucket list item. PS, book tickets on line in advance for timing your entry to Westminster.

Such a beautiful place!!!! I was lucky to be one of the first visitors of the day, the church was empty when I walked around. The gardens are one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The weather was beautiful, nobody was there with me, it was amazing.
I find it a little sad that you are not allowed to take pictures in the Queens Jubilee Tower, not even looking down to the inside of the Abbey.

All in all
Hands down - best Abbey I have seen 😉

You have to book in advance and arrive early because it gets really crowded. If you get there very early, you’ll be among the first inside. The price is expensive, but if you truly want to pay your respects to some of the greatest geniuses in history, it’s worth it. I spent around 1.5hr.
For me, the highlights were, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, James Clerk Maxwell and Stephen Hawking. And as a literature lover, Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, and so many more.
The church itself is very old and absolutely worth visiting. The staff is very nice, and a gentleman who worked there was especially kind and knowledgeable, he shared so many stories that made the visit feel personal and special, giving us great insight into the place and the people that rests there.
If you love history and want to honor those who have advanced human knowledge, this is a must!

The coronation church has been around since 1066 and it is one of the most important Gothic buildings in the country. 16 royal weddings have taken place to include Henry I and Princess Matilda of Scotland in 1100 to Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011. The church was so stunning! As a photographer, I can be there for hours taking pictures of the architecture and the beautiful ceiling. I was truly amazed at the detail.

This place gets packed on the weekends, so plan ahead or try to visit during the weekdays. I passed Abbey about five different times during my travel and I stopped each time to look at the architecture.

Absolutely awe-inspiring — history comes alive!
Westminster Abbey is one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever visited. The moment you step inside, you’re surrounded by centuries of history, stunning Gothic architecture, and an atmosphere that feels truly sacred.

Walking through the Abbey, standing on the same ground where monarchs have been crowned, poets honored, and great moments of British history have unfolded — it gave me chills. The detail in the stonework, stained glass, and tombs is simply extraordinary.

It’s not just a building — it’s a living story of a nation. I left deeply moved, inspired, and full of admiration. If you’re in London, this is an absolute must-see. Pure WOW!

This was a surprising experience. I had no idea how many tombs were housed inside the Abbey. The interior is of course architecturally beautiful and loaded with stained glass. I personally found the tomb of the unknown soldier quite moving. Many historical figures are entombed here and I would imagine that the more history you know, the more impressive the experience.

London’s second most beautiful church (after St Paul’s Cathedral). It is a wonderful place for history and architecture lovers.

An amazing example of medieval Gothic architecture.
Definitely worth the 20 Pound ticket for entrance.
