Over the years we have purchased both stock items and commissioned pieces from Edward. The craftsmanship is consistently of the highest quality and the designs elegant and practical - and he has always been helpful and friendly in our dealings. He and his team clearly regard their work as vocational and not simply a way to earn a living. We can confidently recommend the Edward Johnson team to anyone who wants very special pieces of furniture that give lasting pleasure far greater than can be offered by the brands one usually sees in upmarket shops. And there is the added benefit of supporting the craft infrastructure in this country and the calibre of people employed in it.

Don't hesitate, book yourself onto one of Ed's courses right now.
Not only is he an excellent instructor, but you'll find yourself working alongside - and also learning from - the various talented members of the Edward Johnson bespoke furniture making team.
I booked with him prior to starting work on a very specific steam bending project, hoping to both pick up the technical knowledge (from his standard course project) and get Ed's input into jig design and timber selction for mine.
Lucking my project appealed to him; and even better (for me) the other course attendees had to cancel, so Ed ended up dedicating the whole 5 days to building both my skills and a collection of bent oak from which I later completed my two benches. Completely brilliant!

We are very pleased with our purchase. The mirror is lovely in its own right as well as being well designed and functional as a full length mirror.
The delivery to our home was initially not a success. The courier tested the very adequate packaging to destruction and broke the mirror.
Ed Johnson’s response was all that one could ask for. He replaced the broken mirror without hesitation and sent it using a door to door courier. Just the sort of response that one hopes for when things go wrong.

Ed took our unusual brief, refined it and turned it into a gorgeous centrepiece. We are very happy with it and are receiving many complements. Thank you very much, Ed and Team

A beautiful nest of tables, very unusual. They are a pleasure to use everyday and to know the care with which they were made. We hadn't been looking for any such thing, but once we had seen them, couldn't resist.

I have recently had the pleasure of helping the client to commission and work alongside Edward Johnson on a newly opened community building. Edward shows incredible understanding and interpretation of the brief and delivers beautiful thoughtfully detailed pieces with both aesthetic appeal and longevity in mind, of particular importance in a public building. Edward works incredibly hard to deliver within the available project and budget without compromising on quality, he is patient and flexible in his approach, working with the client to find the right solution and on site during construction, which at times were challenging. Edward and his team produced a diverse range of furniture including a unique upholstered day bed designed to move in two parts, play equipment, display cabinets designed to be mobile whilst holding fragile artefacts and a stunning cafe counter which cleverly incorporated the original parquet flooring, sympathetically steamed and treated. I would welcome the opportunity to work with Edward Johnson again and introduce new clients to him.

I took part in their Sussex Mirror Steam Bending workshop last week and I have nothing but praise for Edward and his team.
The course was not only informative and well planned with everything covered from wood choice and preparation prior to the introduction to steam bending which is a real art . We then worked through the various stages of completing the mirror and the attention to detail is one of the main things l have taken home from the time spent with Ed Andy and Fin in the workshop.
Ed has a great team working with him and they really were a joy to work with. We were also shown how to correctly sharpen our tools which was an added bonus.
I have returned home full of enthusiasm to put what l have learnt into practice and you can’t ask for more than that.

We met Edward when we were wanting to commission a sewing desk to fit into a particular spot in our house. We immediately loved his work and his attention to detail when I explained my requirements. This also involved visiting the house to see where it would be placed, and many discussions on the practicalities as well as the appearance. The result is a unique piece of furniture which fits perfectly with our home. As the person using the desk, I am delighted with the finished result and enjoy using such a practical and well thought out item. The sewing machine is on a mechanical riser which enables me to put it away out of sight easily. The drawers and cupboards are filled with excellent lift out trays for easy access to threads, scissors etc - Edward even took note of the sizes of the accessories to make sure they fitted in with the trays. The top of the desk folds out to make a large cutting surface, and is easy to use. The desk has been made from solid wood and some unusual and very attractive veneers which have made the desk a very good looking piece which fits perfectly into its space - it looks like a built in feature although it is not. Following this, we also purchased a set of Ed,Eddy,Edward side tables - again lovely to look at and extremely practical - we use them a lot in different locations. Next came the Valet which is another most attractive piece which is so useful.
Edward really listened to what I needed for my desk and I could not be more pleased with it. I highly recommend him to you - a true craftsman.
