The barn was built for the Bishops of Worcester, who were the lords of the manor, from local Cotswold stone, measuring approximately 40 by 12 metres (131 by 39 ft). It has a steep pitched roof covered in Cotswold limestone tiles. The interior of the barn is divided into 9 bays by oak posts on stone plinths forming aisles, and carrying the open timber roof.
Built in around 1350 during the time of the Black Death, it would have seen half the population of Bredon killed by the plague. Initially it was believed to have been commissioned by a local bishop as a tithe barn, but research suggests it was a manorial barn.
It was badly damaged by fire in 1979, but was fully restored in 1983. It is a Scheduled monument and Grade I listed building owned by the National Trust.
Worth a look if you're in the area or passing.

What a great quirky place. I love these National Trusts. The structure is great. Great information boards. You can park just outside. I would recommend if barns would be of interest to you but if your not interested in looking at a barn I'd go for a different National Trust experience as it is just a barn with no frills.

This is a small trust site, although still very interesting. There are no staff on site, but there is however an honesty box for non members to donate an entry cost. There is no car park on site, but there are grass areas where you can park. Typically you can expect to spend around 30 minutes at this site.

Such a wonderful building. Huge.
The timbers still have a lot of evidence of the fire. The excellent restoration is a credit to the National Trust. Watch out for the bird droppings though. Surely it would not be too much effort to sweep them up.

This is a surprisingly large barn with a lot of history. The local bishop stored the tenth in that barn. The barn has seen the plague and the war and still stands firm. It is also great for children who may have never seen a barn before.
