An absolute exemplar of what an independent bookshop can be - both an integral part of the community it serves and a destination in itself for those from further afield.
As others have commented, this converted bank building has been gloriously and lovingly converted into a superb place to browse an exceptionally well curated selection of top quality reading. The safe room has been converted into an exquisite reading room in which one can sink into a chair and dip into whatever book or books take your fancy.
And if art is your thing, well, the selction of art materials on offer is, I am told by those who know about such things, first-class.
Astors is an absolute gem of a bookshop, and the owners' rustic cafe, The Beehive, immediately opposite serves to die-for food, drinks and local produce.
Make sure to put both on your list of must-visits if you're anywhere remotely near Chagford. You won't be disappointed.

Shame I couldn't visit in person. Helpful owner took my phone order so book will be in Spain soon. I really want to see the new premises, been a Bank all my life!
