Great selection of lighting. Wanting to purchase a light off display but the lady working in that section couldn't have been less interested. I was amazed at how rude it actually was. Foind same product online elsewhere so not all bad

On Google maps Barnitts is described as a Home and Garden store and as a Hardware store but it is so much more!
They seem to sell everything you could ever need for your home and garden plus a whole lot of things you never knew existed - it’s enormous!
Over the years we have bought all manner of things including a garlic press, a Swiss roll tin, bathroom accessories , light fittings and nails and screws…
It is very easy to get lost as sections branch off but there’s usually a member of staff not too far away.
I’m still not sure if I’ve explored every section.
Highly recommended!

Whoever the gentleman was on the lightbulb counter tonight - I wish I'd gotten the name - went to the extra effort for both me and the gentleman in front to make sure we got the right purchases, saving me money instead of having me buy a more expensive lightbulb for dimmable devices I didn't need, and making sure I was happy with the effect of the other one I needed. This meant him staying a few minutes late but instead of it being a rush, he wanted to make sure we were happy instead of getting out on time. Whatever he's being paid probably isn't enough. 🙂

I initially thought this place tiny but upon further investigation, there's an entire gardening department inside as well. Loads of stuff ranging from kitchen wear and utensils to repair DIY. Got myself a tool box and staff were pretty helpful too.

Barnitts is for me the best shop in York. There is always something to find and products to be surprised by. Having said that when I went recently it did seem to have a little less in store than usual

Great shop, sells most items a household wants. I like the hardware shop area, could spend hours looking and buying things I never knew I needed. Also shop is dog friendly
