I had an amazing day today, I was gifted the Introduction to knife and handle making course.

Firstly Spike, the Blacksmith was amazing and took the group through things clearly and in a way that allowed us to really understand what we needed to do.

He broke the day down into sections and where we needed to do a different task that was when he brought us together to go through it then show us.

In between these blacksmithing lessons were interesting discussions around blacksmithing and how it evolved. And also a bit about how lovely bearded pigs are - (they are a real animal).

I ended the day after being quite hot and sweaty with a knife that looked actually quite good.

I will definately rebook another course and recommend to everyone to have a go.

It was absolutely excellent and Spike is a very kind and patient tutor.

We did the two day forging experience where you get to make a larger knife. We were blown away by the course and the finished knives are amazing. This is all down to Spike, such a great teacher in a high temperature environment with complete novices. Could not recommend the experience highly enough to anyone who is thinking of giving it a go. It’s like your own two day episode of ‘forged in fire’. We will be back next year for the three day course…..

Was bought as a present from some good friends a days blade making course with Spike. I've got to say Spike is a right nice guy and a great teacher. Although I've got over 45 yrs metal fabrication under my apron this was very different but really loved every minute ending up with a awesome viking blacksmith knife. Can't praise Spikes set up and skills,once again Spike thanks for a awesome day.

One day knife making experience.

Went with my brother for a one day knife making introduction and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. We also got to take home what we had made.

There were 4 of us for the whole day so you were not just left to it, there was good interaction and instruction throughout. There were good safety briefings and processes in place and Spike might have mentioned one or twice that stuff could be "hot" ?.

Spike was a good host, informative, and amusing, but also patient. He's also a pretty good blacksmith !

Spike is a great guy, very very knowledgeable! Teaches the basic principles of forging with some science and physics behind it! Really educational and practical experience, I would highly recommend! Super loved our day forging a knife!!

Cracking day with Spike. Got to make a knife from scratch, there was the sciencey stuff too and we all went home with a knife we formed from a glowing block of metal over the course of the day. Magic stuff.

If you are looking for a day out kind of gift, this beats a round a golf hands down.

We’re going back to do the advanced kitchen knife course next.

My only other tip is that if you’re coming from out of county as we did and staying over for the weekend, then do yourself a massive favour and swerve Margate. Try Broadstairs or Whitstable.
