Great bike shop and a great team of people.
I went for a frame building course and I would highly recommend it, the patience and expertise of Rob made it a wonderful experience, he even put up with my never ending stream of questions and I do ask a lot of questions.
In short, if your into your bikes, historical suroundings and fancy a challenge give it a go, you'll be glad you did, start the week with a box of tubes, finish with a frame.

Did a frame-building course around 2 years ago, amazing knowledge in fitting, tubing, brazing, finishing etc etc. Amazing knowledge from such a 'small' bicycle shop. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

My partner and I recently collected our new custom built tandem and are delighted with the whole experience from the first phone call to final collection. The bike is absolutely stunning and the service impeccable. You really do get what you pay for. Pete is a tandem expert and genuinely cares that you get the best out of your bike and experience the full joy of riding. There is clearly a lot of love from him and his co-workers/staff in regards to supplying, building and riding bikes. Wholeheartedly recommend. 🚲❤

Just picked up my Thorn tourer from Bicycles by Design for some minor work and a safety check prior to a cycle tour. As ever the team were extremely helpful and knowledgeable on all aspects of cycle maintenance. My first visit was last year when they expertly fixed a bent derailleur hanger when the original frame builder said it was beyond repair. Pete, Rob and his great team come highly recommended!

This is the 3rd machine that I have bought from Pete over the last 15 years or so. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for my bicycles. Pete and his team are simply the law on bicycles, bicycle design and construction. 100% quality every time.

I spent alot of time researching various bike companies in order to get the touring cycle I wanted. From the first telephone conversation with Peter until collection I have had a 5 star service.
I ve had my bike for a few weeks now. Correct choice!!! Great advice !!!

Very rude. I was outside their shop and asked about a make of bike. Told no they didn't sell it as they only sold quality bikes.
I was asking about a Dolan carbon fibre bike. My partner and I are both looking for new bikes.
Your loss we would have been spending a lot of money. My partner is after two new bikes.
But no problems we will go to Dave Mellors. Great service and excellent bikes there

I had a fantastic week with Rob on the bike frame building course. Rob has seemingly infinite patience and good humour and I was made to feel lost welcome. I can't recommend Bicycles by Design enough and if I wanted an ebike or a tandem and/or another custom bike I'd start there
