Had the guided tour of Biddulph Old Hall today, given by the owner Brian Vowles. The history is so fascinating, with the house and gardens having seen many interesting twists and turns since the Norman Conquest. The story of "The Lost Pre-Raphaelite" was particularly poignant. Brian is an invested and articulate speaker. Tea and cakes after the tour were top quality.
It is only open on a few days per year, so I would heartily recommend a visit.

Not a large residence but boy it packs some history. The guys provide a great commentary as you go around the grounds and house.this was an open day rather than one of the prearranged visits.

Here's a wonderful old place hidden away in the beautiful Staffordshire countryside. The stories of the people of the old hall come to life through the voice of the current owner, packed with a passion for a house that was home to wealthy land owners, artists and even Buddhists. Momentarily, we felt part of the life of the old hall, all warm splendour without any alienating grandeur. It's a wonderful place with a wonderful welcome.

Brian told a true story of love and sadness. It was very moving. I was absolutely transfixed. I can honestly say l imagined it all. Can't wait to read the book. The Hall was very atmospheric and there is a warmth that you feel which is very profound.
I have a grandmother called Mary Biddulph, born and raised at Biddulph Park. Very possibly the same bloodline as the Biddulph family who lived there. Thank you Brian for bringing these wonderful people back to life, even if only for a short time. Nigel was indeed an integral part of the history of Biddulph Old Hall.
By the way, l used to see the Monks shopping in Biddulph as a child. I asked my mother who the strange men were and she replied..'Oh, they are the Monks'
