Had 8 or so good years with Nixon - couldn't really fault them, but since trying to close my Ltd company down it seems there's been a noticeable drop-off in quality. My original contact for the closure left the firm before the final accounts were done and no handover was done and my case seemed to just get left. A new individual picked this up and since autumn 2020 have chased numerous times, being told the accounts would be done in the next week each time. This went on till Feb 2021, at which point individual no longer replies to emails, won't pickup phone and repeated requests for callbacks via the general phone number haven't resulted in any response yet. Great shame - since service a few years back was top notch.

Nixon Williams were my accountant between 2018-20. As part of the services in my contract they were supposed to ‘give tax advice’ and ‘submit self assessment’ and being my registered agent with HMRC they handled comms with them. However, this May, I received a fine from the HMRC for 18-19 and 19-20 tax years as my self assessments hadn’t been submitted and as I tried to contact Nixon Williams to understand the issue, I had to go all the way up to the MD to get someone to reply to me after endless attempt to call them and email the multiple people that looked after my account. Finally, the tax department, which should have advised me at the time if something was missing, tried to charge me to do the tax returns for these years (which should have been submitted when I was still paying them as my accountant) and until my husband intervened they didn’t budge and also flagged they weren’t liable for the fine (which I then had to appeal by myself and it is now all solved). Very disappointing to pay a firm for a expert service that you only partially receive. I do not recommend.

Because Nixon Williams is the first accountants I am dealing with, there could be some bias. However I have been dealing with them for 2 weeks to set up my LTD and they got everything sorted for me at an amazing pace. Of what I have seen so far, they are very good:
- Friendly / Patient

- Quick / Efficient
- Simple packages and relevant add-ons
- Good value for money

In January of this year, Nixon Williams' systems were hacked and the entire accounting portal went down. For about a week they didn't even send out an email to explain what was going on, and never gave any indication of how long this outage would go on for. Their phone lines were down and it was completely impossible to contact anyone. For a period of nearly a month I was unable to use the regular systems to invoice clients, log expenses or manage cashflow. It was a complete mess and the lack of communication was appalling. I've since complained and been told I need to prove that there was a direct financial impact on my business, otherwise they feel like they are quite within their rights to keep all of the fees paid for that period. Never mind that some of the advertised features are the accounting portal (which was down for over a month) and a dedicated accountant (who was impossible to contact). I have now left as a customer and would warn anyone thinking of becoming a new customer to think again.

I used Nixon Williams right through the life of my company from handling the formation for me to it's closedown after a number of successful years. They've always been excellent dealing with monthly and annual accounts, corporation tax, VAT, annual filings, income tax, allowable expenses etc. I always found them very approachable and prompt in dealing with any questions I had particularly Marc Banks who gave me excellent advice on closing down the company, which was a lot more complex than I'd thought it would be. I know other contractors who handle their own accounting and tax and to be honest for the stress and time involved Nixon Williams are excellent value for money!

I have used Nixon Williams for 14 years and in the main they have been excellent. There was the occasional mix up or delay in getting something done but overall they have done everything needed. I had to push them a little to get final accounts done quickly but they managed to meet my schedule.
