A very nice church, Christ Church was built in 1863/4 on the orders of Admiral Frederick Moore Boultbee (1798 -1876) who was aware of the need for a church and had Christ Church constructed at his sole expense. The church cost an approximate £1,300 to build. The plans for the church were drawn up by William Butterfield (1814-1900) of London a prolific architect of churches and schools and colleges. A wonderful lychgate made as a memorial to the fallen in the WWI was built in 1921. Across the road from the church are five alms houses, also designed by William Butterfield, which were built in 1871 for the benefit of elderly people of the parish. Admiral Boultbee was again the benefactor, and to this day the houses are known as Boultbee Cottage. The village school, too, owed its existence to the Admiral. Opened in 1865 - 1950, now a private home.
Parking is a bit awkward outside the church so recommend using Silver Street just across from the church.
