Just got back from the Italian Consulate in Manchester with my parents, both over 70, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the service!

We arrived at 2pm without an appointment, and within 20 minutes after, they were called up, their documents were processed, and in just 30 minutes, they had their new Italian passports, valid for the next 10 years!

The staff at the consulate were professional, efficient, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process.

For anyone in a similar situation, here’s a tip: if you’re over 70, you can visit on a Thursday after 2pm without an appointment. Just ensure you have all the necessary documents, photos, and remember – payments are now by card. It’s a smooth, hassle-free experience.

I've visited twice over the past couple of years, on both occasions I have had a perfectly pleasant experience. Security staff were polite and helpful, and my interactions with the consulate staff have been professional and prompt. I wouldn't personally expect a great deal of interaction and nicety, as it is a professional environment and the staff are polite but focussed. Waiting times are shorter than I expected, and I was able to complete both of my tasks, having been careful in following the guidelines on the website.

I’ve been trying to book an appointment for a passport at this consulate for the past three months, and it’s been incredibly frustrating. The booking system shows no available slots within seconds of 17:00, making it nearly impossible to secure an appointment. This process feels deeply unfair and shows a lack of consideration for Italian citizens abroad who genuinely need consular support.

Honestly 5 stars are seriously not enough. All the staff at the Italian consulate was super friendly , kind and professional. For months the lovely young lady responsible for the passport was super kind and supportive. The entire staff is super professional and friendly, I really felt treated with respect and kindness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything, this consulate is really managed by lovely people 💖

I used the consulate's services as an Italian living abroad two times, to renew my i.d. and my passport.
The personnel at the consulate in both occasions have been courteous and super efficient. Everything was smooth and as per instructions I was given. My passport was prepared in less than an hour and I only spent like 3 minutes at the counter.
The reason for not giving five stars is because of the online appointment booking system. It is truly a nightmare and for my passport I had to attempt numerous times connecting online at exactly 5.00pm before getting a slot. Definitely something that needs to be changed.

They never answer to phone calls. Lines are always busy. No emails reply. No way to have any updates for newborn passports.. Months passes but no reply!!
If i can, i should give zero star!

I had an appointment to renew my passport this morning
I arrived 20 minutes earlier and they processed my forms right away
My new passport was ready within an hour and a half
The staff (including security) were professional, efficient and friendly.
The service has improved so much in the past year, well done!

Very good experience getting my first Italian passport. The staff were very helpful and were sympathetic to my lack of Italian language skills. Very efficient service.

To help others, after I booked my appointment online I was given a time to arrive at the consulate. What I didn't realise was that after the checks and processing during my morning appointment I had to return at 2pm to collect the passport. Which was great, but I had 3.5 hours to while away which I hadn't planned for.
