YOKE BAR REVIEW
A brilliant bar. I follow a conjugate style programming so am used to training with all sorts of different bars. The most important speciality bar may well be the Safety Squat Bar or the Yoke bar as termed by EliteFTS and Dave Tate. My first SSB was a Crepinsek bar bought directly from Louie Simmons at Westside years ago. At the time this was regarded as the gold standard in SSBs. Since then, the mantle has been taken over by the Yoke Bar from EliteFTS and I believe that this claim is very justified. Firstly, the camber is perfect and gives you that training effect that is probably somewhere between a front and back squat. It’s somewhat more back friendly than a straight bar but gives the quads more of a workout than a traditional low bar squat. Additionally, the padding’s location forces the bar to sit very high and teaches the lifter to not collapse in the thoracic region. The balance of the Yoke bar is perfect, and you can squat hands-free or while holding the uprights of a power rack. These ‘Hatfield Squats’ are excellent as an exercise in itself, or as a set finisher when the weight gets heavy. You can also self-spot. One of the biggest factors when choosing a SSB other than the camber angle is the quality of the pad and how comfortable it is. This is the main advantage of the Yoke bar over its competition. The pad is super-thick, very well made and should last a long time. Finally, as an avid buyer of equipment I’ve had some really bad experiences with couriers over the years (not from goods bought from Elite FTSUK). I then asked Stuart if he could make sure that the bar had extra-wrapping in case of transit damage, especially the padding area. I need not have worried the packaging was brilliant and it took me a long time to get to the actual bar and there was no damage at all. I would fully recommend. Great bar, great service.
