Avoid - they increased my Lawnmower service cost by over 60% from Quote to Collection without warning or explanation! (Details below)

I took my Honda lawnmower (which was less than 12 months old) to Ernest Does for a Camshaft Product recall and it's 1st year service (in order to maintain the 3 year guarantee).

They won't do the work until they have confirmed you are happy with the quote, which is produced once they've stripped the machine to confirm what needs doing. So once they knew what was needed I was phoned up and told it'd cost £116 for the service, so I agreed.

A few days later, when the machine was ready, I went to collect it and was surprised that the price had increased by over 60%.

When I questioned the new price the lady I spoke to told me she'd advised me I might need new blades when she gave me the quote. I am very confident she didn't but as their working practises are back in the pre-2000's the quote was over a phone call rather than in an email so it was my word against hers (and they had my £800 lawnmower).

The lady eventually said "well we've replaced the blades, and we would have only done so if they were beyond repair," and that she'd advised me we might have to do that. I denied she advised me of that but I couldn't prove it, so she said "we are going round in circles" She offered to put the old blades back, but as I was told they needed to be replaced I said I'd have to accept they needed replacing and live with the new price. However I also said I'd take the old blades back (they were less than 12 months old and I don't have a massive garden compared to the spec of the lawnmower so I couldn't see how they needed to be replaced).

When she came back I was told that the blades had been replaced as the old ones would normally be sharpened but their grinder was out of action so they simply replaced the blades without thinking to ask me.

I've been offered the old ones back sharpened free of charge - but I would have thought that sharpening the blades would have been part of the service charge I'd paid so I think I've just ended with an unneeded set of spare blades and a service charge of 1/4 the cost of the machine after 12 months!

I will be avoiding this place in future

Excellent place to visit with easy parking, staff are so helpful and knowledgeable it's unreal, I wanted a stihl chainsaw which was unfortunately out of stock but the salesman said don't worry I will get you one from another branch, within 2 days I got phone call saying they had it in, on reaching shop not only was it unpackedged and assembled they also made sure it was running properly and filled it up with fuel and chain oil great service and great staff highly recommended.
