I had a very positive experience with this company in early 2015 when I had some video transfer work done. The attitude was friendly and professional and the work done was reasonably priced and perfectly done.

When I approached the same company in early 2016 I noticed that the managers had changed.
I asked the facility to colour-correct a single video clip which lasts about three seconds to provide a generic setting for what I had shot for a whole scene.

They insisted on using the most expensive post-production option for this work, insisting on charging me for a full hour's online work which would have cost £150 plus 20% VAT. The management would not quote me a price which was proportional to the work I was actually going to receive, which was a single colour-correction setting.

The work I wanted done would have taken about 15 minutes and they were given over a week to do it, which means it could have been done during down-time or scheduled with other small jobs at their convenience. I was flatly contradicted about the amount of time this work would take by the management even though I have seen this work done quite a number of times.

The impression I now have of the company is that the managers have been told to charge full-rate for all work, even if that means that the client would be paying a high rate for time not even used. This is a very greedy and dated policy when they could have actually deployed some logic and retained even an infrequent customer like me. I told them there was other work I wanted to bring to them at a later time. The result was that I told them I'd take future work elsewhere and my lasting impression was that they were more interested in charging as much as they possibly could, rather than being interested in the skill involved. I did try to debate this issue with the manager but his repsonse to what I had to say and the criticism I made was to say in a passive-aggressive way that he was sorry about it, couldn't even be bothered to address what I had said.

I am quite happy to pay a fair price for good work, I very rarely haggle, but I resent being treated like an idiot by a profiteering outfit like this. The managers said nothing about a minimum one hour rate when I booked the work in which means two 20 mile round-trips, to deliver and pick up my media.

It has been a total waste of time and a credulity-stretching experience. My advice would be to take your work somewhere else to a less greedy company that deserves the work and does not treat the client as some kind of cash-cow.
