I have unfortunately used the services of this awful company. I handed my car to them after being on the waiting list for several weeks to get the gearbox re-built, was told will take around 7 to 10 days.
This was a business vehicle I needed for work.
I got it back after four weeks, during this period the calls I made to get updates I was constantly ignored my calls were met with huffing & puffing, the guy named Phil was very rude without any explanation I was left at their mercy, with no sympathy or courtesy despite my pleas that I was out of work & needed my car back. Their responses were unhelpful & dismissive.

After four weeks when I collected the car & paid almost £1200, it was worse than before. It had unbearable noise & had no power on acceleration, despite this they took the money & handed back the car. After calling them back explaining the issues I was put on waiting list for five weeks, during this period again my calls were ignored & pleas were met with unhelpful & dismissive responses again & again.
The owner named Bernie whom I left messages after messages to call me was almost always busy or on holiday, they just make excuses after excuses, same s*** different day, that’s what you get from them. If you want any peace stay away.

After five weeks being on the waiting list finally my car was handed back to them, it took them a week to pull it apart & was then told they can’t source the part, having then helped them to source the part myself it took them a further three weeks to get the car ready for collection.
In total it took them three months & further £500 to hand the car back to me. Without any apology or sympathy for what they had put me through. They don’t give a s***, the owner again was not available on collection day.
They won’t let you inspect the car, you are left with no choice but to trust them & pay them to return your car. They don’t give you any documentation or terms & conditions to say they have your car when you hand it in. You are practically held hostage.
I had the worst experience of my life dealing with this company & has caused pain/emotional distress & financial losses I cannot comprehend.
They lack accountability, their sub standard workmanship.
It would not surprise me if they try to discredit this review in some way, even though I have their invoices with dates.

Had a gearbox rebuild and diff refurb in Feb 2022 . cost of approx £3+ vat .
1500 miles later in aug 2024 the gearbox is leaking oil .
Have contacted many times on email and phone since sept , but no resolution as of jan 2025 .

-no mention of queue I can see in the emails .

Have emailed again in Jan 2025 , no response as of yet .

Looks like Will have to get rectified elsewhere .

Amended in Jan 2025 to make some corrections and updates .

Cannot currently recommend based on my experience .

I got Gearboxman to rebuild a historic race gearbox for a project. Luckily I gave the gearbox a once over before completing the build, and found it had internal damage due to improper rebuilding. It appears that when it was rebuilt you did not have the correct tooling so have smashed them round with a chisel and went way too tight, resulted in a broken locking ring and misaligned input shaft, causing gear binding and play.

Despite multiple emails detailing the issue, their response has been unhelpful and dismissive. They claimed to have not received my initial email, requested a copy of the invoice, and then failed to address the problem. The lack of accountability and failure to rectify their substandard work is disgusting conduct of business.

I strongly advise against using their services.

Sent gearbox to this company with reserve gear issue all seemed very professional got gear box back after paying nearly £600 and when mecanhic refitted the issue still existed...obviously I am going to be out the cost of mecanhic removing and reconnecting as well.
After phoning Victor twice over a period of 3 days in which I was told the boss would phone me. I never received any calls.
I now believe because they are based in Luton and me in Northern Ireland they didn't feel I was relevant to there business. All I can say is I am very disappointed in the service this company provided.

Thanks for your reply just to point out Bernie I received no missed calls from Luton or the mainland in the last week. So felt I was left out in the cold ....so its not moaning as you suggest. Its was the only way to get your attention 🙂
In business reviews are there to help you improve your business not for you to throw the dummy out the pram every time someone gives you a low rating which I am only noticing there are a fair few.
Remember stress isn't good for you sir...

I went to CTS or "gearboxman" on the recommendation of the Golf GTi club forum as the box on my MK2 GTi wasn't shifting into 1,2 or 3 properly. I thought it was worn syncros so needing a full re-build. I was delighted when they called to say that the box was fixed and that it was just a broken mounting plate causing the problem. The box is now back in the car and works perfectly. I would recommend these guys as they could have ripped me off, but it was a cheap repair in the end, much less than I'd been quoted by some garages who don't even specialise in gearboxes. Their workshop looks like a proper old school engineering shop with rows of boxes on the shelves waiting to be fixed. Very glad I went to a specialist, rather than an ordinary garage.

After a real nightmare breakdown in the North East with the diff collapsing on our 2016 Hyundai, got it towed down to the Gearboxman. Within 4 days it was back on the road all repaired, great comms and a fantastic price. We'll done guys a real nice ending to what was a nightmare week up north!
