This is a review specifically for Vinyl Tree, which sells records on a Wednesday and Sunday.

I've been buying records for the best part of a decade and Vinyl Tree is the best place I've bought from. There are only three dealers I will buy from now, and Vinyl Tree is one of them. He takes care with what he buys because it matters to him that his customers are buying quality records. He understands that repeat business is important, but if you spend more than 30 seconds speaking to him, it'll be clear that he's genuinely passionate about what he does, and I imagine he'd be quite upset if he sold a record that turned out to not be worth the buying.

He cleans the records he buys and inspects them for defects. You might hope for someone selling records to sound test them, but that wouldn't be practical for Vinyl Tree because he can get a lot of records in at once. And anyway, he's been doing this a long time and his sight inspection is reliable. I bought a copy of Ride a White Swan off him a few years ago despite it having a pretty large scratch because I trust his judgment, and it plays beautifully, you can't hear the scratch at all. If he does get "substandard" records in, they'll be priced appropriately.

And what counts for substandard at Vinyl Tree is just standard for many other sellers. I was recently in Leicester and visited two record stores. Neither of them were great, but one in particular, it was so clear the guy didn't care a jot about what he was buying and selling. None of the records were cleaned, covered in dust, hair and god knows what else, scratched to hell, covers in tatters, all leaning up against each other at painful angles.

I've bought literally hundreds of records from Vinyl Tree and I imagine I'll buy hundreds more. You always see some of the same faces week after week buying from him because they know he's a quality seller, too.

I can't recommend this business enough. If you want quality records, Vinyl Tree is the best answer for a long distance all round.

The town appeared to be buzzing!! We wandered round the town & were pleasantly amazed with the number of shops still open/in business including a very good number of eateries & liquid refreshment places. The market was open also & my wife was able to purchase some wool she needed.
An excellent day topped off with a visit to the canal wharf about half a mile from centre. Pleasant surroundings/eatery & nice walk along the tow path. Brilliant sunny day & we will repeat soon.
