A small rocky lake is the jewel in the crown of this peaceful former quarry which once brought so much employment to the village of Markfield. Although the lake has unfortunately been fenced off, the surrounding grassy amphitheatre, small wood, neat allotments, and rocky knolls offer an array of short walks and picnic sites. Access is possible on three of four sides, with a small parking area in the northwest corner. If you are walking from the village, start at The Green and head up past the historic church on your left. There is a trig point at the summit where a windmill stood in the 19th century. You will see dog walkers but precious few others.

Nice for a short stroll, you can’t walk far but it’s nice and quiet up there if you don’t want to bump into many people. The dogs enjoy a good sniff about and there’s a nice view of the water from the trig point at top.

Nice place, we didnt do the full walk. The quarry looks awesome. There is a green fence all round, The rock climbing walls looked good, but it was raining so no climbing. It was misty and rainy, and we were the only ones there so, was a little creepy but, we loved that. Nice place for dogs to run around.

Its not a particularly large area and we walked it quite quickly. There is a good view from the top and it's an interesting walk around the quarry but don't plan it for a day or half day out. Its an hour or two at best.

What a lovely well maintained free nature walk!

Carpark enough for 6-7 cars, partially accesible for wheel chair users but still alot of fun to be had, safe for children but still need a weary eye, dog friendly but again leads advised.

I was astounded at the stunning views this unique to the area nature reserve brings, barely visable from the road but after a short walk your right in the scene of a bond film.
There's a lovely flat grass land area over looking the clear waters of the retired quarry where myself and young family often have picnics.

All in all a lovely free afternoon for a family or the lone adventurer!

PLEASE BE ADVISED
This is a hazardous site, due care and adult supervision is a must, be safe people mother nature's spleadures are not to be triffled with!!

Not much to see, on the day of my visit. Car park seems OK, thow I couldn't use it because of the height restrictions. I managed to found a stop and parked there. (not ideal)

Nice quiet small loop that’s perfect to do with the dog.

It’s an interesting place to see also, shame they can’t do more with it, like make it into a swimming hole.
