We brought our 15 month old twins for a sunny day out in March. They loved the gorillas and elephants but there was very little else out to see, I suppose that’s just the nature of a zoo, sometimes the animals don’t want to be seen. The main restaurant was super crowded but we had taken our own lunch so that was ok. Most of the other refreshment places were shut which was a shame as we would have liked a coffee to break up the walk round (-1 star for that). All in all a really easy day out with toddlers and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Really good day out.
It isn’t the biggest Zoo or Safari Park, but the enclosures are all a good size, the animals have a decent amount of hiding and privacy spots while also a really good amount of viewing areas for visitors.
The staff were very friendly and the amenities were really good.

Kids play park is a good size, but not for all ages.

Gift shop is a little small but had a good selection.
I’d recommend getting there early as parking is a bit of a premium

Bit pricy but it is a huge park, definitely bring a buggy for little uns unless they absolutely love walking as it can get tiring for little legs. Our 5 year old thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially the ice age animal bit, where they had lifesize statues of extinct wildlife. Its a whole day experience. Their big cafe is a tad on the dear side but good food is served there and the playground next to it is really fun for kids of all ages. Do buy tickets in advance to get a cheaper deal.

Decent zoo, much cheaper to visit than their other zoo near Ashford. Probably about 3-4 hours to go around and see everything.

The zoo is reasonably flat so better for access with a wheelchair or pushchair than their other zoo also

Howletts Zoo has really stepped up its game since our last visit. The improvements are noticeable, making it a much more enjoyable experience overall. The variety of animals is impressive, with each enclosure offering a close-up view that really connects you with the wildlife.

The wolves and lions were the standout attractions for us. The wolves, in particular, were captivating, and it was fascinating to watch them in their spacious, well-maintained habitat. The lions were equally impressive, exuding the majestic presence you’d expect from such iconic animals.

But the real magic of Howletts lies with the elephants. Watching these magnificent creatures in their large, thoughtfully designed enclosure was a truly memorable experience. The care and attention given to them are evident, making it a highlight of the day.

Overall, Howletts Zoo has made significant improvements, and it’s clear they are committed to providing an excellent experience for visitors and animals alike. A visit here is highly recommended, and we’re already looking forward to our next trip.

What an amazing day we had!! The staff here are so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food we had was all good and not too badly priced. We will definitely be going back in the not too distant future. Access for a wheelchair was good a few bumpy areas but nothing major. A truly wonderful day enjoyed by us all.

Some great enclosures and experiences to be had within a very spread out park. Animals look generally relaxed and comfortable in their surroundings. Only criticism would be that the smaller food outlets seem to close early out of peak times.
