We visited the Lanercost Prior on our recent tour of the UK. What an amazing structure with a history that dates back to 1169. Inside the church was stunning. There is an old part of the priory in ruins as well. In the back is a cemetery with massive head stones that goes back to the beginning of this landmark. The priory actually hosted visits from Edward I starting in 1280. We loved our visit and highly recommend to anyone who loves history from this time period.

The church is free to enter (they ask for donation for photos) and the Priory itself is at a fee.

This was such a beautiful historic site. The ruins were quite beautiful, and it was so peaceful there. We were the only ones there and there were birds chirping and a few chickens as well. The ruins were really unique, as were the tombs inside. The church sitting next to it is also worth a visit. It survived much better than the priory did, since Henry III felt that the churches could be converted to the Anglican religion. Lots of interesting stuff here.

The priory is small but beautiful to look at. Great for photography. The attached church is also worth seeing & free to enter. The Priory tea rooms within a 200 meters or so are excellent & well worth planning to have a bite to eat at.

Lanercost Priory was founded by Robert de Vaux between 1165 and 1174, to house Augustinian canons. A thirteenth-century history of England and the Wars of Scottish Independence, was compiled by the monks of the priory.
Great if you're a member.

Visited twice, on miserable day and on a sunny day! Typical EH site, however the church is worth visiting. Site is dog friendly too, café also has dedicated area for dogs, cafe a bit pricey but you are a captive audience, nice gift shop but again pricey. Free parking on site.

A great destination for anyone interested in medieval history and the life in an abbey. Well preserved ruins, with an adjoining church to help the imagination. Close to an excellent cafe with toilets.
