In my opinion the best woodland/ public park in south east London with beautiful woodlands and a pond located in the woodlands and a second pond by the ruins plenty of wildlife such as newts, lizards, slow worms can be found around the area. A chalk pit and fossil pit can be found located in the woods. A abbey ruins can be found located at edged of the woodlands with a coffee and snack hut and toliets located next to the historic site. A play park and outdoor gym can be found on the edge of the woodlands aswell.

I love the daffodils in March, but there's also a small area of Lowland Heath (heather) that flowers in August and early September. This is a vanishingly small representative of what was previously a widespread habitat (Heathrow, Hampstead Heath, Bexleyheath). It is precious and even here, threatened with scubby trees and saplings and bracken growing through it

Grown up with these woods, great for exercise and walking dogs, quite a few paths as well so doesn't get too samey, quite hilly though so not always easy.

Hands down, Lesnes Abbey Woods is probably the nicest bunch of trees in the borough. The sheer plant diversity is stupendous, and the topography varied enough to raise one's heart rate. There are bats hanging around here, ditto woodpeckers, grey squirrels, and the occasional chaffinch.
