Nice place and very convenient in the centre of Barnard Castle. Good range of choice from cooking, kitchenware, gardening and DIY. Not too cheap due to selling better quality items.

A very useful hardware store with a very good range of products. The staff are always helpful and friendly. Good wheelchair access from the car park at the rear but a step and tight door at the front. Car park is a pay and display - always patrolled 80p for one hour.

Nice friendly staff but a rip off! called in for 5 litres of paint which was £25 can get a 10 litre tin of the same paint from scewfix for the same price! Was just convenient for a one off as needed it that morning

Absolutely disgraceful service in Maxwells today. They sold my wife an overpriced item while I parked the car. When I return to the shop to ask for a refund, they were as difficult as possible. The cashier that had served her less than ten minutes before and not given her a receipt insisted that he would not refund the item. He continued to be as obstructive and unhelpful as possible, I have never know a cashier be so difficult.

This place is great, it's the type of shop that has every thing you will need for a project and I do mean everything. You can spend ages here happily browsing through the whole place, and come out with just the thing you need and a whole lot more for all those jobs at home that need doing. The staff are very helpful and friendly too.

great place- Aladdins cave, sells all sorts from tea pots to tools to compost. lovely friendly and polite staff. My favourite shop in Barnard Castle.

TOTAL RIP OFF!! 1star too many! Rather look elsewhere! Poor products with even worse customer service! No recourse-no responsibility-they just want your money!

I suppose when you find a cheap product, that's what you get... cheap! When we eventually received our "next day" delivery (albeit 5 days later) the 3 panels we ordered were all damaged and we had to repair them before we could use them... you may say why not send them back... well try as you may to get hold of their customer service support line you will not get a response and when they finally respond (weeks later) they really couldn't give a stuff!

Granted we were offered a refund of £4.99 for our £42 order.. really a slap in the face for broken fencing!

Rather spend the extra!
