The highest point in East Sussex and a superb place for bracing country walks with sweeping views. There's history too, as the site contains traces of an Iron Age hillfort.
The ground can be very muddy in winter so robust footwear is a must, but paths are generally well marked and the grass is kept low. Good place to see wildflowers in summer, and the dew ponds reflect the evening sun beautifully. Winter sunsets from the South Downs ridge can be truly stunning and worth staying late for.
The well maintained hilltop parking area is free for National Trust members, otherwise charges apply. If you're driving here, be careful to set navigation to the parking area and not the beacon itself, or Maps will direct you past the entrance at which point you can't turn around until you've gone all the way down the hill.

I've been going for walks from the Ditchling Beacon car park for years. Have seen many a wonderful, breathtaking sunset. Only a few hours ago I've returned from a walk that I will remember for the rest of my life. The photos speak for themselves. It's a great place with amazing views. There's a dog waste bin in the car park, which every dog walker will appreciate. There's sometimes a bit of a problem finding a parking space, but then there is another (although very dilapidated car park at the bottom of the beacon, only about 15 minutes strenuous walk uphill)

2nd time I've walked here as part of 2 different circular walks. This time from the University with my son and his friend. Too late for the coffee van in the car park alas. The previous time, we didn't park in the car park but found a (free) lay-by down a "nearby" quiet country road and walked the mile or two. Nice views and pleasant rolling countryside.

Ditching Beacon is stunning. Whether you're walking along the top (which is an easy gentle slope for most abilities) or whether you choose to go down to the villages below, or climb up the famous Beacon, which takes a bit more effort, it's a very worthwhile place to come. On a good day you can see for miles and miles towards the North, and spot some local Sussex vineyards in the valley below. Popular with bikers, hikers, runners and walkers. Dogs are allowed to come here, but on a lead, as there is frequently cattle grazing along the top. Parking is generally easy in the Beacon car park, except on really busy days. There's typically an ice cream can in the car park selling cold drinks and ice creams, lollies etc.

Stunning viewpoint with easy access from the road and car park. Amazing for the sunrise but not sunset. Look out for the great Sussex Coffee Truck who parks in the car park all day at weekends serving all things coffee, iced drinks and cake.
