I WILL NEVER USE PLS FOR ANYTHING AGAIN! - I used PLS off the back of a recommendation from my mortgage advisor, and being a first time buyer and only 19 years old I had never had any experience with using a solicitor before so I just took the advice and went with PLS, what a mistake that has turned out to be! In the first instance they were okay, all of the documents I needed to sign to start the process were uploaded to the portal in a clear way, I signed them and the process was underway.
As time went on communication really dropped off every update was coming off the back of me chasing them and nothing was being communicated back to me without me asking. When there were documents that required my attention they were just dumped in the portal with no instruction on what to do with them, it was just assumed that I would find them in the portal an know exactly what to do, as I said, I was a first time buyer and all of this was a new experience to me and I really didn’t feel that I was getting the support that I was paying for!
Anyway, we got further through the process and closer to completion and still, I was having to chase every step of the way and then the communication I did get back didn’t feel helpful, we got to the point where we were going to set a completion date and it came to light that there were several bits of paperwork that hadn’t been supplied to me to sign which was only noticed by PLS at the very last minute, so this ended up delaying completion by a week so these additional documents could be supplied to me to wet sign and post back to the office. So, we get to the day before completion, I’ve heard nothing from PLS so I phone them to find out what the process would be on the day of completion as this hadn’t been communicated to me and Usama explains this to me over the phone, when I ask how collecting the keys works he told me that I would need to go to the estate agents to pick these up once we had completed, there was just one issue with this, there were no estate agents involved in the sale, it was a private sale which PLS were aware of from the start. So we get to the following day (completion day) and I’ve heard nothing about how I arrange collection of the keys and I’ve heard nothing about estimated time for completion, so I phone at around lunchtime to find out when we are likely to complete and I was told that it would be in the afternoon, which was fine. It was getting very close to the end of the day and I’d still heard absolutely nothing, it was a Friday and I was getting a little concerned so I phoned again and they still didn’t have an answer on when, then I finally got the phone call to say that we had completed and the property was mine (I am certain that if I didn’t keep chasing on the day then we wouldn’t have completed before the weekend) I was also told in this phone call that the keys were now with the estate agent and ready to collect immediately, as I said, there were no estate agents involved! Anyway I was in touch with the seller and managed to get hold of the keys and finally the property was mine and the keys were in my hand, I thought that was the end and I wouldn’t have to speak to PLS again after then, oh how I was wrong!
I am now 6 months post completion and the issues I’ve faced over the last 6 months include: not updating land registry, not notifying my lease hold of new tenant and I’m still waiting for an issue to be rectified whereby £300 of lease arrears that I paid to PLS on completion were transferred to the wrong place and have left my lease account in negative figures for over six months with no answer as of yet, much like the whole process I am not receiving any communication unless I chase them, I am extremely disappointed and also currently out of pocket, not the levels of service I expected! I will update once I have all of my issues resolved! NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER!!!
