My favourite restaurant in Cockermouth at the moment, we went when there was live music and the atmosphere was lovely. All the staff are so friendly and helpful, and the food is amazing! We shared the vegetarian platter and had a small dish each and there was so much variety! Great cocktails too, would definitely recommend:)

The tapas tastes very good. The service was a mixed bag. The atmosphere was lively enough. The price was a little steep. We didn’t try desserts. It was a reasonable experience overall but in spite of the good food, there was something ineffable about the place that wouldn’t draw me back.

We visit Shills regularly and love the place.

Normally we sit downstairs as it's dog friendly and we take our dog who always gets a bowl of water and a few treats off the wonderful staff in there.

We normally have lunch, coffees and cakes while in Shills but also pop into the shop and pick up bits and bobs you simply can't get elsewhere.

Recently we've bought ginger bread tablets, loaf of miller bread, Turkish delight, various chocolates and a couple of cigars.

Reasonable prices, well stocked with things out of the ordinary, comfortable seating and brilliant, friendly staff.

Highly recommend.

Booked a table for Saturday night when the food festival was on good job we did!!! Every table was full!!! Food was amazing!!! Couldn't fault.a single part of it. Staff couldn't do anything more!!! Dessert was massive and exceptional!!!! Definitely will be returning before the end of our hols!!!

The service is lovely and the food is generally interesting and good. The interior is nice too. But the management should decide whether they're running a restaurant or a café if they want to improve their turnover and staff rewards. We visited for lunch and once the food was delivered, that felt like the end of the deal. Staff continued to greet and serve other customers but no one asked how our food was, cleared our plates or asked if we'd like anything else. (We would have ordered coffee and dessert.) No one brought a bill and in the end we deduced that it's pay at the till, which means you can't review the bill or consider a tip, to the detriment of the staff.
It's a nice place that could easily be better, so I hope these comments are helpful.

Lovely welcoming staff.
Food is lovely, and they were able to accommodate a dairy intolerance by making up a meal that was not on the menu. Very nice of them.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very airy and pleasant and the decor is very pleasing.

Solid and varied selection of foods for a lunchtime meal - great little shop inside as well with a lovely cheese counter, chocolates counter, and wine selection!
