Stepping into the climbing gym has quickly become the pinnacle of my week. Substation Macc. offers a pristine environment and a diverse array of climbing routes suitable for every level of experience. Whether it's your first time reaching for the holds or you're a veteran scaling the most intricate problems, there's a path here that will both challenge and reward you. Shying away from the usual V-scale, Substation uses 1-6 markers to keep track of the difficulties. The staff, ever lovely and helpful, are the heartbeat of this place, infusing every interaction with warmth and genuine support. But beyond the walls lies the gym's true gem—a warm and inviting community that welcomes each climber with open arms, creating an atmosphere where camaraderie is just as important as the climb. This gym is more than a place to work out; it's a hub where climbers gather, grow, and thrive together.

My daughter attends the NICAS Level 1, soon to start the level 2 certification classes! She absolutely loves them. Her climbing has come on so much, along with her confidence. Everyone that she has come into contact with has been really helpful and handed down invaluable knowledge to enable her to learn how to climb safely using the correct techniques.

Absolutely love this place! Everyone is so friendly, the food and drink is great, the bouldering (for a relative beginner) seems really challenging and varied. Can’t recommend it enough.

Super friendly staff, great cafe and some of the best setting I've experienced. Really inventive and varied climbing which means interest is maintained right across a broad range of grades.

Always great to climb here. The routes are changed frequently so it's never boring. The staff are friendly and the coffee's good too. Recommended.
