Laszlo did a great job on my Morris 1000, gave a reasonable quote, then booked in for some excellent fabrication work on basically a whole front end and door posts of my Morris and numerous other welding repairs at his little workshop in Macclesfield - the car now rescued, looks original again. Looking at his other excellent work and projects, like the Jag and Issetta, my Morris was a walk in the park! If you need a restoration job doing then look no further than The Classic Mechanic...

I entrusted two motorbike projects to Laz at a good friend's recommendation. One of these projects turned into an extensive nut and bolt rebuild. From a 'left in a wet barn' write off, to a showroom condition as new 15 year old sports tourer. Laz has been an exemplary professional: always keeping me up to date, open and honest, trustworthy and a genuinely nice guy to deal with. That's to say nothing of his immense talent in laying his hand to almost anything and having such an eye for detail and absolutely insisting on such a high degree of excellence. Whatever restoration project you have in mind, you'd be hard pressed to find an outfit better suited to getting you the exceptional result you probably have in mind. I just wish Laz did painting and decorating too!!

I discovered Laz through his website and after reading the great reviews of the Lister Jaguar restoration decided I should talk to him about my 62 E Type. The meeting was fine and after looking around the shop and talking to him I felt I was in the right place. Despite him being busy we managed to agree a flexible start date and we met again at my place so he could see the car for himself before starting. The car was cosmetically very nice but I knew there were hidden problems and had suspicions about the quality of the work before my ownership, little did I know what was to come. I stripped the car back to bare metal while waiting for the agreed start date, this is when the horror story began to unfold, 15 litres of paint stripper produced 3 industrial sized refuse bags of body filler. Laz and I had the same philosophy regarding the body restoration, that was to save as much as we could of the original but balance manhours to repair against the cost of replacement panels, nothing was to be left undone and the quality behind the panels was to be as good as the externals. Laz has recorded the details of the work on his blog so I’ll skip the details, from my perspective the end result is everything I wanted, the car looks great, is structurally sound, dimensionally correct and will stand any inspection, it’s one I’m proud of.
Laz was a pleasure to deal with, he communicated well and consulted on the important stuff, the job turned out to be way bigger than either of us expected but he always had an eye on my costs and regularly gave detailed invoices and sent photos of important milestones. I’m sorry to say Laz has relocated back to Hungary, he managed to finish my car a couple of days before leaving but I have no doubt that if we had been in the middle of the work I would have shipped the car, the cost of shipping and a weekend trip to Hungary is not much added to a major job like this. I would recommend anyone with a car requiring full body restoration to seriously consider Laz, reasonable labour rates, first class work, access to other skilled but reasonably priced craftsmen and a good excuse to have a weekend in Hungary......

Laszlo is without question the most trustworthy, reliable mechanic I have encountered. Testament to this is the fact that he provided regular progress updates. I gave my barely-running R19 to him and a few weeks later I picked it up with an MOT and drove it home faultlessly with a huge smile on my face! Absolutley fantastic craftsman! The time, effort and skill Laszlo puts in to a project is staggering. My Mk1 Transit, although a long way from complete, will be good for another 40 years after the painstaking work Laszlo has put in.
