Quirky pile of rocks which you can climb, etc.

Google took us to somewhere you can’t really park (though a kind stranger let us park on her driveway), and finding it wasn’t too easy as fences block the way and need climbing over, etc (not easy with a baby in a buggy and two young kids).

Cool when you get there though, and apparently there is a proper place to park cars, and we went home via a circular route which was easier terrain, but ended up confusing once over the main road, to find our way back to our car.

Wow what a pain to find no signs from car park. Once parked in the devil's den car park walk down the long byway (track) till there is a small gate (with beware off bull sign) just after a corner go through to next small gate & follow cut path keep left and walk down the hill until you see a tree 🌳 surrounded by stones and turn left through another gate and your in view 👍 possibly a 20min walk.

This is such a beautiful and tranquil place, just you, the birds and the breeze. About a 15 minute walk along a track opposite the village of Charlton between Marlborough and Avebury. Take a picnic and just chill.

Plenty of people have commented about the difficulty of finding this place. All I would say is, you can find directions on line and it is absolutely worth the effort!

Shame there’s no signpost but a post made here by a previous visitor with directions really helped. Thank you!
Only thing I’d add is take a right from the car park (level track) not left (going downhill).
I went with my three young children for a morning walk, we’ll be back next time in the spring with blankets and a picnic to spend longer here. Very special place.

A great place to go on a walk. Thought to be the site of a megalithic long barrow, mostly no longer visible and stones reerrected in history. Situated near fields of sarsen stones, worth a visit.

In my historical county of Wiltshire there are so many places that you can go for lovely walks....I tend to research the area on Google Maps get in the car & go to explore this lovely countryside....So off we went about 30 minutes drive from where we live off on another adventure....The Devils Den is said to be what was once the entrance to a Neolithic Burial mound which is said was 230ft long, what happened to it I’m not sure, the cap stone that sits on top is said to weigh 17 tons can you believe that,it makes you wonder how they lifted it up there all those years ago...It just like the even larger stones of Stone Henge...So intriguing, how clever they were to build so many which are now historical sites in this area.....👍e

Fascinating neolithic structure well away from the much busier Avebury near by. Lovely range of different habitats around the area with varying degrees of access depending on your fitness.
