Tucked away from the main road, and definitely not to be overlooked, this pub is beautifully traditional in its appearance and just as functional in its bar and restaurant. I came in for a pub lunch with my family just after visiting the Bateman’s house, not expecting anything more than the average roast but in fact, I very much enjoyed the chicken roast that the rose and crown had to offer. The chicken roast definitely exceeded my expectation, as it was everything one would expect in a chicken roast, but at its best. I’m not ashamed to say that me and my family had our fill and POLISHED the plates. The staff member, his name was Alex, was very very friendly. Despite his tall appearance which works against his favour in such a short ceiling pub, Alex is approachable, bubbly and makes good conversation which makes the world of a difference to me as a customer in my opinion. The pub also has a generous variety of Harvey’s beer if that strikes your fancy, it’s very popular among other places and you will definitely taste the difference here since the rose and crown actually clean their lines and can pour well.
Lastly, although I hadn’t sat in the garden myself, it would be very pleasant on a hot day especially since the pub is not on the main road and therefore you can enjoy the privacy of the area and bask in good weather with no car pollution. It’s worth a visit if you can’t decide out of the other two pubs in the area, which in my opinion don’t compare to the lovely standard of rose and crown.

Lovely village pub with low ceilings and good beer. Harvey's on tap, served by friendly bar staff. Secluded outside area through the bar. Food looked good, although we didn't eat. I'd definitely return. Dog friendly, child friendly

What a wonderful little place. And the staff! I don’t think they could have been more friendly, helpful and welcoming. I was travelling with my dog and was surprised when, alongside my own breakfast, a bowl with his own breakfast was brought out. I hadn’t asked for this and was told, ‘He’s our guest too!’
Parking is available, although this pub is hundreds of years old so be mindful that it’s a little tight, but certainly close and plentiful.
The pub and dining areas are warm and comfortable, a nice mix of locals and guests. The weather was fairly good for our visit, but I can imagine it’s a wonderful place to spend an evening out of the wind and rain. It has that warm and earthy, comforting atmosphere.

Lovely pub. Food and landlady were great. Can't say what the rooms were like as we did not stay.

We went up to Burwash to meet our brand new and first grandchild. We were accommodated at the last minute and greeted with a lovely warm welcome. The rooms are twin through out, comfy, and the room was spotlessly clean. We had breakfast both mornings and even had our son in law one morning. Good hearty well cooked full English. I am a porridge girl there was no breakfast menu but I am sure that would have been accommodated if Id asked. We had a nice evening meal too. The landlord and staff went over and above to welcome us and share our good news. Would stay again and would highly recommend.
