A fantastic forest location, with beautiful views of the surrounding forest, with easy access from the A31 from Ringwood or Bournemouth, and very friendly owners and staff. Traditional country pub with food prepared and cooked on site. Really nice area for sitting outside and a kids play area. There is also a campsite behind. For food, we are plant-based (vegan), and the cheerful young chef (Lee) catered for us very nicely. The rest of the menu looked good, and people around us enjoyed their fish dishes. We went in the evening mid-week in August and it was quiet, and very relaxed. Intermittent phone signal, if important. Great for a forest walk and pub visit!

5/5 – Absolutely Wonderful Experience!

I cannot recommend this place enough. It was my first visit, and it certainly won’t be my last. From the moment we arrived, it felt like visiting family and friends—warm, welcoming, and full of charm. Mel, the owner, was absolutely lovely, as were the general manager and the wonderful lady serving drinks.

We had dinner and it was simply beautiful—delicious food in a lovely setting. I would highly recommend dining here. The only regret was not being able to stay for the roast! A truly special place with a fantastic team.

The best of everything. Landlord helped us with our motorhome as we were newbies. The service is the best I've come across in years. Food was to die for. Service amazing. People who work there fabulous. Can't say enough how great it was. Thank you.

Lovely staff. Great selection of drinks.
Sadly Expensive... Really expensive food that is average at best.
Excellent rustic feel to the pub. Well worth dropping in if passing....

Having had a lovely drive around the New Forest with mum, we decided it was time to quench our thirst. Of course, being a Sunday, we knew most places were busy to the point we couldn't get through the front door and other places we wanted to avoid due to poor past experiences.

We spotted the sign for The Sir Walter Tyrell pub whilst driving through Brook (near Lyndhurst) and decided to chance it.

On arrival we could see it was busy in the beer garden with families but thankfully there was a space in the large carpark.
We walked in and found an empty table near the door and were greeted by the landlady (wish I had asked her name). She moved us to a bigger table away from the front door and said there were just the two of us she said it wasn't a problem taking up a larger table.
I had a sample of an ale I hadn't heard of before, not to my liking I opted for The Green King IPA.
Asked if they had a jug and they did. Easier for me to hold. Mum opted for the Mojito, she was very happy with her decision. As we were staying inside we got proper glassware and were able to start a tab.
Those outside were given a £2 refundable rigid plastic drinking container. Food and drink had to be ordered at the bar and unsure if running up a tab was available.

We were given menus and I was pleasently surprised there were other food options beside the roasts (I'm not a roast lover). I got up to go to the bar to order and was told they would come to the table instead which was nice espicially being rushed of their feet.

To start I had the boar pate and it was plentiful and very tasty followed by the seabass. Beautifully presented and extremely delicious. Mum started with the crispy spring rolls that she said were excellent followed by breaded whitebait with homemade tartar sauce served with fries. She looked at mine and wish she had chosen what I had. She said her whitebait was lovely but would've been better as a smaller starter portion.

Sadly no room for desert.

Will definately be coming back and 100% recommend this pub.
A really lovely landlady and great staff members.

Went on a Sunday and we liked the fact that they served a larger menu than just roasts. I had the worst chicken burger I have ever had in a pub. I could have cooked a better one at home. The burger itself was like a frozen Birdseye chicken burger, I can definitely buy nicer fresh ones in Lidl. The chips were OK, but again just frozen skin-on fries, nothing to write home about. The burger was £16, an absolute rip off. I'd be embarrassed to serve that to friends at home, let alone paying customers! Will never return!

Also the babychange is in the ladies loo, 1good job my husband wasn't on his own then! The babychange is located so that you leave about a 40cm gap for people to walk around to get to the cubicles. It was way too cosy, and left me feeling very uncomfortable, as I was clearly an inconvenience to everyone else using the toilets.

Great location in the New Forest near Rufus Stone, tucked away but easily accessible for caravans or camping in the site behind.
Good food and excellent friendly service with fantastic views across the forest.
