I was able to persuade Scott to have a go at my non working Optibike.
Its a very attractive thing ( apart from the strange headlamp pod) and is all in house designed and built in Colorado.

Scott got it apart and diagnosed circuit board issues and possible hall sensor problems with the motor.
He suggested I send the board and motor back to Opti for them to diagnose and repair as while he could do it, they could do it quickly and with any obscure parts available.
Eventually it came back and was reassembled but still didnt work ......
Scott then took it all apart again and found several dry joints on the primary circuit board and some failing capacitors and got it working !
But then the battery management system failed and it wouldnt recharge ( been stood for too long ?) and he had to strip it again, recover an amost lost battery bank and rebalance all the battery packs. The bike now seems to be working well and I look forward to giving it a' full charge to empty' test on the local network.

I am in awe of Scott ! There may be others who can look at a complex circuit board and read its function bit I'm not one of them.
Its just another language he reckons and 'anyone could do it'

So basically this post is to further add to the above recommendations regarding Scott and Torqu-e-cycles.

He seems to be flat out rebuilding battery packs for every make of e-bike, including some of the major brands who are unable to supply replacement battery packs at the moment, due to supply chain constraints and will no doubt get a reputation as the go-to for battery problems but he is capable of tackling pretty much any aspect of any electric motorcycle or bicycle problems.

"e-bikes are cheating" Well, they're not but such is the oft heard complaint from usually the young and fit who lack empathy with those who are old and infirm such as I (yet with a lifetime of cycling behind me).

Sadly, arthritic knees mean that I can no longer apply much pressure to my pedals even though I know that rotation while pedalling is beneficial so last year I tried a friend's e-bike and it was a revelation: I could cycle again without further damage to my knees yet still have a good aerobic workout while maintaining joint flexibility.

That experience convinced me to buy my own e-bike so I approached Torqu-e-cycles who built a lovely mountain bike for me using a rear hub drive. It was so good that I asked Scott to build another for my wife.

Moving forward a few months and having regained familiarity with our local network of lanes I decided to upgrade to a full suspension bike but this time using a mid-drive motor. Scott also built this along with a custom battery happily taking my original bike in as part exchange.

Talking of batteries... the restrictive full suspension frame of my bike meant that Scott had to build a custom battery case from scratch which ably demonstrated his expertise in this area as his shop offers repairs to battery packs and the controlling electronics: visit a 'normal' bicycle workshop and you'll see spanners and other oily paraphernalia but Torqu-e-cycles additionally has benches of test equipment, soldering station and battery packs and circuit boards receiving open heart surgery.

As a satisfied customer I really can't recommend Torqu-e-cycles highly enough.
