We purchased a Viessman boiler in 2021 under the expectation they are a decent brand. Unfortunately 2 out of 3 annual services have resulted in the same part braking when the front cover was removed. Leaving us with no hot water or heating for a week each time, as the part doesn't seem to be stocked as standard in any of the main plumbing supply merchants.

Viessman customer service is also very snotty, not very understanding and wipe their hands of any responsibility.

Even when the boiler was installed, the installer was unable to complete the install on his first or second attempt. It took 2 other engineers to finally get it running!

Would not recommend anyone to buy this brand due to the issues we've had.

Old boiler prematurely failed soo After a lot of research and asking I decided to buy this German made boiler.
7 people where I work have them and rate highly.

I installed and modded plumbing, commissioned boiler, it was working but had a fault light on.
I thought as usual I got the broke one, fault code not in supplied manual.

Phone tech support and they sorted in seconds.
Description in the instructions for settings is a bit lost in translation, I had selected what I thought was the setting for a room stat, it wasn’t, the one I needed was….constant heating with room control, not open thermostat. (option 13).
All ok, all wired issues now gone.
It also has a stainless steel heat exchange which I hope last longer than the aluminium composite ones.
Make sure you have the inhibitor in your system and a mag filter this will validate warranty and stop any corrosion.

Heats water very quickly even now as weather turns cold and the heating heat up in mins can run bath tap on full and water to hot to keep hand in (50deg).

I have the 050-w 35kw

All you need is in the box and no more, you need to buy a flue too, template for hanging very useful, installation was very easy and all in all very easy to commission and set up for me.

Customer service was brilliant.

Standard 7 year guarantee when you register and follow there rules.

Looks good too and fits into a standard cupboard if need.

When you take the front of it looks M/T ……which means it’s very well thought out loads of room inside if you needed to work on it. Fingers crossed not for a long time.

You officially need a check valve and expansion vessel fitted for the cold water inlet. If you put a check valve in you must fit a expansion vessel or it can damage boiler.

Trying to book a service is just an awful experience.

Use an online form, it doesn't get booked, but I'll get a call back - it's 2024, but OK...
They call, I miss it & get a voicemail to call back, I call back, I get told I'll get another call back, no call back.
I call again, the wait time is very long and I eventually have to give up.
I e-mail and I get no reply.
I provide all the details needed to simply just book this in. It's 2024 ffs. Just book it!

Awful.

I really regret getting one of their boilers, whilst everything seems OK with it so far, it seems most engineers are not too experienced with them (in my area at least anyway), so you're most likely stuck with Viessmann services and this 1924 customer experience. Avoid.

AVOID.
Be very careful when buying so called "premium" Viessman Boiler.
We got a powerful WiFi boiler 2 years ago for a large house and it's already broken down for the 3rd time.
The first 2 times the installer fixed it but he couldn't on the 3rd occasion.
As we have a 13 year warranty we called Viessman and they've given an appointment in 2 weeks.
In the meantime the boiler is on constant meaning we are wasting more money!
Please be careful of any quick response times as the company are useless and really don't care.
The lady Kerry I spoke to in the call centre was incredibly unfriendly and showed a lack of understanding.
In case they show any false response on here, I've already emailed them and spoken to their unfriendly staff.

I do not recommend. The boiler has been broken for a long time. srevis warranty stated that the fault was in a poorly installed condes. and the truth is that there is a problem with the burner. he said that everything was fine and that he would bill us for the next unjustified call. Today is Saturday, Monday bank holiday. A family from abroad is coming to visit us today and the boiler stopped working. there is no contact with them because they work until 1 p.m. on Saturday. It gives a guarantee that does not exist.

Worst company EVER, we had the misfortune to buy veissman vitodense 100 boiler in 2010 with the boiler scrapage scheme from the govt. and it hasn't worked properly since then we have had 3 new time clocks and loads of washers. Viessman sent somebody out to fix it but the guarantee had amazingly 'just' run out. Now we are at a stage of terminally explosive failure see picture below, the component is a braided hose which really should break but as you can see in the pictures that is just what has happened.

I just got a new Viessmann 050-W 30Kw combi boiler. It's my second Viessmann boiler, and I rate it highly.

The advantages of Viessmann boilers: they have stonking 10+ year warranties, bomb-proof components (inc market-leading stainless steel heat exchangers) and smart tech (all Viessmann boilers are now wifi enabled). Their party trick is to "modulate" their heat output over a wide range. This matters because they can turn down their heat output lower than most other boilers, which means they can keep your house at a constant temperature without continually switching the burner on and off. This, in turn, saves money on your gas bill while also prolonging the boiler's life.

To achieve this efficiency you need to use the right thermostat. For a seamless experience, Viessmann's own smart thermostats (eg. the Vitotrol 100-E for their 100 boiler) automatically enable all of the efficiency features of the boiler.

However, Viessmann doesn't currently (as of Feb 2024) offer a smart thermostat for their 050 boiler. Instead they offer a temperature sensor (no screen or buttons, just a sensor) which you can put in the same spot you'd have a thermostat, and you can then control the boiler (inc time programmes etc) from the ViCare app. This works well, but many people want a display and buttons on their thermostat, so with the 050 boiler you may want to look at third party options.

The good news is that both the 050 and 100 boilers have OpenTherm, which allows compatible third party thermostats to operate them at full efficiency. Google "Viessmann OpenTherm" for a clear explanation.

In terms of third party options, EPH and ESI both do decent budget OpenTherm-compatible thermostats. But if you want to be able to control your heating from an app, or just want something that looks fancier, you may want to consider a smart thermostat. Hive are ok, but don't do OpenTherm, so won't control your Viessmann efficiently. Instead you'll want to go for an OpenTherm-compatible smart thermostat such as the Google Nest 3rd Gen, Google Nest E, Honeywell T6R, Drayton Wiser, or Tado (but not all versions - look for the combi boiler version with modulation control).

Whichever OpenTherm-compatible thermostat you go for, make sure your installer sets up both the boiler and the thermostat to use OpenTherm. If the installer sets this up wrong, you won't be able to enable OpenTherm yourself afterwards without opening your boiler (which only Gas Safe trained people should do), rewiring stuff, and potentially voiding your warranty.

One potential (but solvable) snag with OpenTherm and Viessmann combi boilers: in addition to controlling the heating, OpenTherm-compatible thermostats tend to take control of the hot water temperature, disabling the hot water controls on the boiler. This isn't ideal because this can in turn disable hot water "eco mode", which is best kept enabled. In that case you'll need to ask Viessmann tech support (via a form on the website) to re-enable it. They can do this remotely if your boiler is connected to your wifi. This prevents an issue where the boiler can get stuck in hot water pre-heat mode, cycling on/off (which is bad), and failing to properly heat your radiators. It would be better if Viessmann could keep eco mode available by default with OpenTherm.

You can then get the best efficiency and comfort from your new boiler by:

1. setting the max flow temp on your thermostat and/or boiler to 55 or 60 degrees (eg. setting 8 in the parameters menu on the 050 boiler - see p56 of the installation manual)

2. setting max heating output to less than 100% (eg. setting 7 in the 050 boiler's parameters menu) - I have mine set at 40%. Unless you have an especially big house, it doesn't need to be at maximum, which just reduces efficiency and increases noise. This setting doesn't affect hot water flow rate.

3. setting max speed of heating pump to less than 100% (eg. setting 4 in the 050 boiler's parameters menu). I have mine set to 65% which makes the boiler whisper quiet - far quieter than when the pump is running at full speed.

Having installed Viessmann boilers for well over 15 years, I can fully endorse them as boilers of superior quality and technology over other brands. The interface and build quality are superb and the heat exchanger, in my opinion, is the best on the market. There is a reason that they were the first manufacturer to offer a 10 year warranty on their heat exchangers. Great quality boilers with a great support network.
